Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin made these remarks at the closing ceremony of the basic training (fourth phase) of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force members at the Ansar Guard Battalion (AGB) ground in Bhatara, Bhatara, on Monday (November 3).
He said that about one million people will be on duty in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections. Special measures have been taken for those who could not vote while on duty, including presiding officers, returning officers and members of law enforcement agencies. By registering through an app, the ballot will reach their home address and they will be able to vote according to the prescribed rules.
The CEC also said that imprisoned citizens and expatriates in legal custody will also get the opportunity to exercise their voting rights this time. He mentioned, “What kind of Bangladesh will I leave for future generations—this is my concern now. I see this responsibility not as a job, but as a mission and a challenge.”
He emphasized that in the current context of the country, we have to work beyond the conventional. The Ansar force is the main force in maintaining law and order at the polling stations, and the direction of the future of Bangladesh will depend on their role.
Calling for awareness, the CEC said, "Sharing without verification has now become a habit after seeing something on social media. Everyone must be careful about this." He also said that a special cell has been formed in the Election Commission to prevent the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI), where anyone can contact and verify the authenticity of the information.
Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Director General Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud, along with senior officials and trainees, were present at the event.
