The High Court bench of Justice Md. Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury will pronounce the order on the writ petition filed seeking directions not to administer oath to BNP leader Ishraq Hossain as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation at 10:45 am today (May 22).

Earlier, the High Court had postponed the date of the order to today on Wednesday.

Advocate Md. Hossain heard the petition, Deputy Attorney General Mahfuzur Rahman Milon appeared for the state, and Barristers Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Kaiser Kamal appeared for Ishraq.

On May 14, Dhaka resident Md. Mamunur Rashid filed a writ petition in the High Court to prevent Ishraq Hossain from taking oath. The same writ also sought punitive action against the tribunal judge who declared him mayor.

Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh of the Awami League won the February 1, 2020 elections by a landslide. However, on March 27, the tribunal's verdict annulled Taposh's victory and declared Ishraq the mayor. Later, on April 27, the Election Commission published the gazette.

Meanwhile, a sit-in program has been called under the banner of 'Dhakabasi' demanding Ishraq's appointment as mayor from 9 am today.

Security has been tightened in the Supreme Court area surrounding this writ petition. Army and police have been deployed at the Mazar Gate and Bar Council Gate.
