Former President Abdul Hamid landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Thai Airways flight (TG-339) at around 1:30 am on Sunday (June 8). He was put down in a wheelchair, and when he reached the immigration counter at 1:45 am, immigration was not completed until 2:25 am.

Abdul Hamid had gone to Thailand on May 6, where he was accompanied by his younger son Riyad Ahmed Tushar and brother-in-law Dr. ANM Naushad Khan. After widespread backlash over his departure, Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury and several police officers were recalled and dismissed.

The government has formed a high-level committee, chaired by Professor C. R. Abrar. The other two members of the committee are Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, and Brigadier General (retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Shipping.

Abdul Hamid was elected President in 2013 and began his second term in 2018. He was removed from office on April 24, 2023. He currently lives in Nikunja.

On January 14, a case was filed in Kishoreganj against Abdul Hamid and 124 others, including top Awami League leaders. The case was filed by BNP activist Tohmul Islam, who filed the case after being injured during the movement.
