The ISPR said that on May 18, some dismissed and discharged former army personnel protested in the National Press Club area demanding various demands including reinstatement, remission of punishment and compensation, and spoke to the media. With the aim of a peaceful solution, an army delegation went there and listened to them with patience and sincerity.
The representatives said that the demands will be verified as per the prevailing rules and regulations and necessary steps will be taken. It was also advised to present the complaints directly to the concerned authorities.
The ISPR release said that a total of 802 applications were submitted till May 14, out of which 106 have been disposed of and the rest are under process.
However, the army expressed regret that some unruly members blocked vehicles, threw bricks and stones at the law enforcement agencies and shouted obscene slogans during the protest. The law enforcement agencies were forced to take action to control the situation.
The statement said that the army has handled the situation with patience and compassion, but provocative or anti-public interest activities that tarnish the image of the force are never acceptable. Everyone is urged to behave responsibly, respecting discipline and the constitutional framework.
