Regan Morshed (pseudonym), who received a full scholarship at the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai, applied for a study visa on June 11 but has not received it yet. As a result, he could not join the classes that began on June 28. He is in fear of losing his scholarship.

Regarding the complexity of the visa process, 'The Monitor' editor Kazi Wahiduddin Alam said that illegal immigration and political unrest are among the reasons for the increase in visa rejections.

The Indian High Commission said that currently only emergency and medical visas are being issued in limited quantities. Other categories will be introduced in phases.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nazrul Islam said that almost all countries have now increased the strictness in visa verification. According to those concerned, political uncertainty and the tendency to submit false information are also major reasons behind not getting a visa.
