Health security measures have been strengthened at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as coronavirus infections are increasing again in various countries, including neighboring India. Airport Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad said that screening of passengers coming from India has started from June 2. Adequate masks and PPE have been kept in stock to ensure the safety of passengers and the airport authorities are on the highest alert.
Thermal scanners have been installed at the immigration point for passengers arriving from international flights. In addition, instructions regarding corona prevention are being disseminated among passengers to increase awareness.
According to the Indian Health Ministry, the number of active corona patients in the country is currently 6,491. The highest number of infections is in Kerala (1,957), followed by Gujarat, West Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra. 65 people have died of corona there this year.
In this new infection, Omicron variants such as LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and the newly identified NB.1.8.1 are being found in large numbers. Authorities said these precautionary measures will remain in effect at the airport until the situation improves.
