Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor, said that the next seven months are very important for the economy of Bangladesh. This period can bring opportunities for the country to build, but there is also a risk of failure.

He said this in a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday (May 1) night.

He said that the interim government has taken an ambitious plan to increase the capacity of Chittagong Port six times, which is not possible without international partnership. Such an initiative will send a message to global investors that Bangladesh is ready for business.

Shafiqul Alam said that although South Asia has lagged behind in the era of changing global economic structures, now is the time for Bangladesh. “Can we make use of this moment?” — he also raised such a question.

He also said that many countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam have moved forward through export-oriented economies towards the United States and Europe, this time Bangladesh will also have to take that path.

Regarding politics, he said that it is not an obstacle now but is playing a role in creating a business-friendly environment. Even within Islamist parties, there are signs of positive change.

However, he warned that the biggest challenge could be the logistics sector. Failure to transport goods will hinder the productive economy that Bangladesh wants to transform into.
